The story behind the Awards

We are the Derek Awards an independent not for profit reviews and awards company founded in 2010 to give a voice of the average Fringe goer.

We started out as 29 friends with a crazy idea and have since grown to over 400 judges and we aim to keep expanding including being asked to review non fringe festival media such as armature dramatics, books, student films and even music.

‍ ‍While our Judges prefer to remain anonymous our Founder Derek (pictured) has become recognisable usually by his charm and enthusiasm and has had experience on both sides of the stage and wishes to help people starting out achieve their goals of being recognised by the wider public.

Our review style is to usually to give a star rating and a small blurb which is useful for yourselves as these can be easily attached to posters and flyers we can provide longer reviews upon request.
